Enable Display over other apps for SignMitra Player
Enable Display over other apps for SignMitra Player
Find the Android overlay setting and understand the different setup on Samsung Tizen and LG webOS players.
Overview
Display over other apps is an Android permission. Enable it on the device running SignMitra Player only if the Android app asks for it or your device setup requires it. It is separate from full-screen playback and automatic launch.
Which device should you change?
| Your player | Where to make the change |
|---|---|
| Android TV, Android signage player or Android box | Open settings on the Android player itself. Menu names vary by device and Android version. |
| Android box connected by HDMI to a Samsung or LG TV | Use the Android box settings. The Samsung or LG display is only showing the HDMI signal. |
| Samsung Tizen/SSSP built-in SignMitra app | There is no Android “Display over other apps” switch. Open the installed Custom App or URL Launcher and use the Samsung Tizen player guide. |
| LG webOS built-in SignMitra app | There is no Android “Display over other apps” switch. Launch the installed SignMitra app and use the LG webOS player guide. |
Android TV, Android box and Android signage player
- On the player, open Settings with the remote.
- Open Apps or Apps & notifications, then Special app access. Some devices place this under Advanced or the three-dot menu.
- Choose Display over other apps, Draw over other apps or Appear on top.
- Select SignMitra Player and turn on Allow display over other apps if the app is listed.
- Return to SignMitra Player. Reopen it if necessary, then confirm that your screen pairs and content plays.
On a Samsung Galaxy Android phone or tablet, the path is commonly Settings → Apps → three-dot menu → Special access → Appear on top. This applies to Galaxy Android devices, not Samsung Tizen TVs.
Samsung Tizen/SSSP built-in player
Samsung TV apps do not offer the Android overlay permission. On supported commercial signage, open Home → Custom App or URL Launcher to start SignMitra Player, pair it with your SignMitra screen, and choose the model's app launch or Play via setting if available. Follow the Samsung installation and launch steps for your model. Automatic startup depends on the signage model and installation method; granting an Android permission on another device will not change it.
LG webOS built-in player
LG webOS uses its own app manager, so it has no Android overlay switch. Open SignMitra Player from Home after installation. On supported LG commercial signage, check Settings → EZ Setting → SI Server Setting for the installed app's launch configuration. Follow the LG webOS installation guide for the correct steps for your model. Consumer TV and commercial signage menus differ.
If the Android setting is missing
- Confirm that the device running SignMitra Player actually uses Android. A Samsung Tizen or LG webOS TV will not show this Android menu.
- Use Settings search for “display over other apps,” “draw over other apps” or “appear on top.” On some devices the path is Settings → Apps → SignMitra Player → Special app access.
- If SignMitra Player is not listed, the installed build or device may not expose overlay access. Continue normal player setup; do not change unrelated apps' permissions.
- For a managed device where the switch is disabled, ask the device administrator to review its app policy. Contact SignMitra Support with the player model, Android version and a photo of the settings screen if the app specifically requests this permission.

Step by Step Guide
Step 1: Identify the player operating system
Check the device that runs SignMitra Player. If an Android box is connected by HDMI, change settings on the box. Built-in Samsung Tizen and LG webOS players do not have this Android permission.
Step 2: Open Android special app access
On the Android player open Settings > Apps > Special app access. If this path differs, search Settings for Display over other apps, Draw over other apps or Appear on top.
Step 3: Allow SignMitra Player if listed
Choose SignMitra Player and enable Allow display over other apps. On Samsung Galaxy Android phones or tablets, look under Apps > three-dot menu > Special access > Appear on top.
Step 4: Return to the player and verify
Open SignMitra Player again, complete pairing if needed, and confirm the assigned playlist plays. If the switch is absent, continue normal setup and use the platform-specific guide.
